Unitarian Universalism is a covenantal faith, not a doctrinal faith. For us, how we walk together to discover depth and meaning in our lives, is more important than what each of us discovers individually on this walk.

The idea that we should only act when it will make a positive difference is a message of white culture. It is one that can paralyze white progressives. What might be a better grounding for working for justice?

At WHUUF and other UU congregations, white voices and stories are most commonly heard from the pulpit. In this service we will listen to the words of Black Unitarian Universalists. This is a celebration of our shared commitment to live into a new chapter in the story of our UU faith. 19th century Unitarians created the Christmas that we celebrate today.  They gave the holiday the Blessing of Peace, Joy and Hope.  Rev Tracy reminds us that we need these today.

The word “faith” and its cousin “belief” are challenging words for many Unitarian Universalists. I will share what I have faith in and what gives me hope when all seems hopeless.

Have you noticed that it is often much easier to be hospitable, kind and welcoming to others than to yourself? Today we will consider the possibility of being genuinely hospitable to ourselves.

When we meet people who appear entirely unlike us, who seem to belong to a group that makes them different, or whose appearance is not what we expect, we usually feel uncomfortable. However, our faith calls us to radical hospitality. This dichotomy can be a challenge.

Most of us were never taught to listen to people’s hearts and souls. Many of us are rarely listened to so deeply that what is true about ourselves and lives comes flowing out. Listening is one way to experience the beauty that is in each of us.

Twenty years after the UUA declared itself an anti-racist, anti-oppression organization, the leadership is still nearly all white men. How is it that an organization made up of people who care passionately about diversity and ending racism and oppression is still led by white people? The answers lead us into the mysteries of privilege and culture that we cannot see. It’s time to learn more about it. Black Lives Unitarian Universalists have asked all UU congregations to devote a Sunday service this spring to these issues in response to the recent conflict at the UUA about hiring practices.

Once upon a time, the Earth was alive and people had a relationship with her, but Western philosophy slowly and surely reduced her to dirt and resources. How do we build a real and meaningful relationship with Earth?

Rev. Springberry will reflect on the ways forgiveness gives us peace, why it is so hard and what we can do to make it easier.

Creation stories are stories cultures tell to explain what is important, how things work, and where the power is.  What does the Big Bang/Evolution creation story tell us about what is important, how things work, and where the power is?

We strive to create beloved community inside and outside our walls.  What can we do to make this happen?

Giving our life energy is how we stay connected to the great web of life. Today our minister asks us to consider generosity of time and money as a tangible expression of Love.

Often it is not lack of vision or skill, but our fear, that holds us back from being the people we most want to be. This morning Reverend Springberry will help us explore the question “Where do we find courage?”
