Why Join West Hills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship?

WHUUF welcomes new members. Membership offers inspiration and guidance to create lives of spiritual depth and meaning. It also offers:

• Friends to walk with through good and hard times.
• A multigenerational community: babies to elders growing together.
• Opportunities to serve and practice generosity.
• A voice and a vote on key issues affecting our fellowship.
• Connection to the larger community of the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Becoming a Member

An initial step is to sign up for our communications, including the weekly E-blast which as WHUUF news and links to activities. We encourage prospective members to get involved and experience the vibrant WHUUF community.

As you participate, you may attend Sunday services, meet other WHUUF members, join a Chalice Circle, or become involved in a volunteer activity. Whatever led you to WHUUF initially, you begin to feel that it is now time to make a commitment to yourself and the Fellowship.

To facilitate the path to membership, WHUUF offers newcomers informational classes on UU theology, history and organization, as well as a newcomer get acquainted call. All the classes are held on Zoom. It is highly recommended that prospective members participate in the appropriate sessions. A schedule for the current classes is down below.

After completing the informational classes, as appropriate for you, the next step is what is called “signing the book”, which is our official membership book. This is usually done at a special New Member Dedication that is part of a Sunday service. New members are introduced by our minister and officially welcomed by the congregation.

If you have questions on the informational classes and any aspect of becoming a member, please contact a member of our Membership Team. The team recognizes that individual pathways to membership may differ and will work to meet your needs.

WHUUF bylaws also require that members::

• Are in agreement with the purposes of the organization, as stated in Article I of the Bylaws.
• Have signed the membership roll.
• Are at least 16 years of age.
• Generally have made a financial pledge for the current fiscal year and an identifiable monetary contribution to WHUUF for the current or preceding fiscal year. If this is not possible, then has committed to service within the community – supports an activity and service on one Sunday/month

We greatly appreciate whatever level of generosity that works for your budget, as all contributions are important and help make possible our many worthwhile programs, the maintenance of our campus, and the support of our paid staff.  That said, it is important to note that no one will be denied Membership due to inability to Pledge.
