Where are we now? After 9 months of work, the Design Build Team presented Fieldwork Design and Architecture’s renderings to WHUUF’s Board. The Board was thrilled with the renderings. and wants to thank the DBT for all their dedication and hard work.  Remember our 5 Priorities for a building project? They are: accessibility, more space in the sanctuary, larger coffee room, a less crowded entryway, and improved AV. This plan has it all!

The plan, called “the accessibility option,” provides for building a new Sanctuary over the Forest Hall building wing. Our existing Sanctuary becomes the main coffee room after services, and also serves as a foyer and a  partitionable community room.  There will be a new entry area with wider stairs and an elevator.

What’s next? After a congregational presentation by the architects on September 27, WHUUF will organize meetings for discussion and questions. Why?  Because a vote is coming up: members will receive a ballot on October 9th asking folks to vote “yes” to go forward with a capital campaign.

What happens in a capital campaign?

First, Kay Crider will conduct a 5-day “financial feasibility study” in late October to determine how much money we can likely raise from our current membership.  Second, the board will work with the Capital Campaign Team and the DBT to decide how much of the project can be funded.  Third, in February the Capital Campaign Team will seek pledges from all our current members and friends for both the annual stewardship fund as well as the Capital Campaign.  Exciting times!
