Hello Dear WHUUFers:
It’s time again for WHUUF’s annual Back to School Supplies Drive to benefit the kiddos connected with Western Farm Workers.
Stay tuned for more details, but generally, we’ll probably have some sort of a collection box or bin in the Foyer for the first three Sundays in August. [8/2, 8/9 and 8/16]
The items requested are as follow: #2 Ticonderoga Pencils, Pens, Markers (washable thick and thin), Glue Squeeze Bottles, Crayons (not Rose brand), Pink Erasers, Scissors, White-Out Wheelies, Rulers, Flash Drives, Highlighters (all colors), Invisible Tape, Binders (1.5 to 2.0 inch), Composition notebooks – college and wide ruled, Binder Paper – college and wide ruled), new or nearly new backpacks. Additional items are welcome and appreciated.
Most stores are currently setting up their sale displays for all of these things – so in the next few weeks, please grab an item or two when you are out shopping, and bring your purchases in to WHUUF. With all the pressures that are currently being placed on anyone that looks like they might be Hispanic, it’s been really hard for families to survive – and aside from the regular living expenses, Moms and Dads are finding it almost impossible to completely outfit their children for school. And, don’t we all agree that every young student should be able to show up for their first day of school with lots of brand new pencils and folders and rulers, etc.– ready to learn, and equipped for a great year!
Our beloved congregation has always been so generous, and I’m hoping you can contribute again this year. If shopping is not your thing, you can also hand someone on this year’s team (TBD) some money, and we’ll shop for you.
Also, WFW is requesting a few volunteers to help at their headquarters in Hillsboro with sorting, packing, handing supplies over to families. That actually sounds like fun, and that event is scheduled for Saturday, August 22 (shifts are 9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm or all day, or even just an hour or two). If you are interested in helping out on the 22nd, please email me.
Gracias como siempre por tu sincera generosidad!
