Land acknowledgments are “a formal statement that recognizes and respects Indigenous Peoples as traditional stewards of this land and the enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories; meant to be a sign of respect.” Signs of respect are good, but what is the intention behind them and what actions might they inspire? Trish is a member of the Creek tribe and serves as Director of Red Lodge Transition Services, a communal living space for native women being released from prison.
