Our Wondering Room welcomes children from age 4 through fourth grade. Each session has a theme.
Our morning begins with a chalice lighting, a song, and a story, which is told, not read. Following the story, we pose some “wondering questions” which are usually not discussed, but give each child some things to think about. There may be a group game or activity. Then, children participate in an activity of their choice, chosen from a variety of offerings. In this way, older children can gravitate to higher level activities and younger children can feel competent in the activities they choose.
Adults circulate to assist and enhance each child’s experience. Fun activities from previous sessions are often made available during the “choice” time. At the end of each session, parents can take home information about what was covered that day, with ideas for extending the conversation at home.
